Pink Dalmatians
F1 : 7-05-21
I started this line with a beautiful Orange Dalmatian Halfmoon called Snap Dragon who inspired me to breed. I loved his beautiful long fins and his thick body. He had a great personality and was just a fun betta to have around. I wasn't sure what I was looking for in a pair for him, but fell in love with Rose Petal when I saw her on Coast Gem.
Snap Dragon - Male Orange Dalmatian HM
Snap Dragon is a beautiful Orange Dalmatian with the biggest fins I've ever had on a betta. I love his big strong body to go with his fins ♥ He is quite a character. His favorite past time is flaring at himself in the reflection of his tank and chasing shrimp that dare to swim around him. He will come up to say hi and I really love his personality!
Spawning was a little difficult for him. When it came to Rose Petal he was too intimidated by how forward she was, and would run away and hide from her. It took some back and forth to get him to build a nest, but once he figured out what to do he was great! Unfortunately he was a terrible dad so only a handful of fry made it.
Rose Petal - Female Galaxy HM
I love this chick, but she is an absolute capital B! She is a shrimp assassin and excels at this job. She is sassy and will nip fingers, but I love how energetic she is! Her form is everything I want in a long finned betta and her colors are just stunning. Seriously, video and photos don't show off how gorgeous this fish is.
She was a champ during the spawning process and would chase Snap Dragon around and tell him to get on with it. She would drop 10-30 eggs at a time and was fantastic at helping to get them in the nest. I think she must have dropped 1000 eggs, but Snapdragon wasn't great at taking care of them so this spawn turned out very small
Goals of the Spawn
My original goal when pairing them was to get the huge gorgeous fins from the dad but with improved form. My second goal was to get galaxy and koi patterns from their mom. My third goal, though more of just something I like, was to get their dad's pretty blue star tail.
The Spawn
Hatched : 7-05-2021
Amount : 22 fry - 4 males - 18 females
Deformities : I used Microworms with this spawn and as a result, or just correlation, 4 of the fry only had one ventral fin.
Colors : Most turned out to be Red or Pink with a blue body, and one stayed white with iridescent scales
Goals : My first goal was met - their form was much improved compared to their dad. My second goal fell quite flat. Of the 22 fry, only one had potential for marbling but she stayed pure white. The rest turned out to be bi-colors. However, there was a surprise with 5 of them when they got beautiful pink fins! My Third goal was a smashing hit as all of the kids inherited his beautiful blue star.
Continue: I did continue the spawn with Group Spawn 4.
